About GrachtAlert

Routes, water level & incident reporting for skippers on the Amsterdam canals

GrachtAlert started as a reporting point: skippers on the Amsterdam canals regularly face objects being thrown, obstacles in the water and dangerous situations on the water — causing material damage and putting skippers and passengers at risk.

By now GrachtAlert does much more: besides reporting nuisance and incidents, the app also offers a route planner that accounts for your boat’s dimensions, bridge clearances and current closures, and the live water level of the Amsterdam canals.

Reports are still automatically forwarded to the City of Amsterdam. The collected data helps make the severity of the problem visible to the city, police and media.

The initiative was started by skipper Darcey and is fully independent. The more skippers take part, the stronger the signal.
